NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Idaho of last decade
By Joey Loose
5. Isaiah Wright – Utah / San Diego
Moving on, this 6’2 guard from Boise got his chance to make an impact in the Pac-12 but was much more of a contributor and impact player in the WCC. Wright arrived in Utah in 2014 and spent a pair of seasons as a bench player for the Utes. After sitting out a year, he made his way to San Diego, playing a starring role for the Toreros in his final two collegiate seasons.
Wright appeared in most of Utah’s games but had a minimal impact, never scoring more than 8 points, though he did appear in five NCAA Tournament games with the Utes. Life at San Diego was much more productive, as Wright was a full-time starter and averaged more than 13 points per game in both seasons, while also recording 5.3 assists per game as a junior. He had 22 points in his first game in a win over San Jose State and later recorded a career-high 30 points in a win at Portland.
He was named All-WCC Second Team for that junior season, finishing both seasons among the league leaders in assists. He made very solid contributions across those seasons with the Toreros, accomplishing what he didn’t have a chance to do back at Utah. San Diego had a pair of 20-win seasons with Wright in the fold and he clearly played an important role on the program’s success near the end of the decade.
