4. Deandre Jones – Central Arkansas / Saint Louis

After starring in Boise at the high school level, Jones spent a year at prep school in Missouri before joining the squad at Central Arkansas in 2017. A talented 5’11 point guard, he spent four seasons playing for the Bears in the Southland Conference before winding up at Saint Louis to finish off his collegiate days, spending this most recent college basketball season with those Billikens.

Jones was an impact player at Central Arkansas and an important part of the backcourt, becoming a starter during his freshman season. He exceeded 12 points per game as both a sophomore and junior, scoring a career-high 33 points in a game against Sam Houston State while a junior. That junior year also saw him average 6.0 assists per game in a season shortened by injury and the national pandemic. With the Billikens, Jones was less of an important piece, coming off the bench and averaging just 4.0 points per game.

It’s Jones’ time with Central Arkansas that gets our attention, as he still sits among the leaders in Southland history in assists. He was also a talented shooter, hitting 52% of his 3-pointers in an injury-shortened senior season, while also excelling as a creator and distributor on offense. Jones certainly endeared himself in his time with the Bears and left behind a very solid legacy in the Southland; not bad for a point guard from Idaho.
