NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Indiana of last decade
By Joey Loose
6. Yogi Ferrell – Indiana
A talented point guard from Indianapolis, Ferrell was a top-rated recruit who joined a highly-touted recruiting class for Indiana, playing his college ball under Tom Crean. The Hoosiers program was still recovering from previous sanctions, but it was during Ferrell’s years that things really came together again at Indiana. Ferrell started all 137 games in his career and certainly played a major role in those year’s success.
Ferrell had 16 points in an NCAA Tournament win over James Madison as a freshman, but it was his final three seasons where he factored more into the offense, averaging at least 16 points per game in each of those years. Ferrell put up solid assists numbers, having a 20-point, 10-assist game in the NCAA Tournament against Chattanooga as a senior. By the time his career was over, he was Indiana’s all-time leader in that category.
Twice named to the All-Big Ten First Team, Ferrell was a brilliant piece who was also on the conference’s All-Defense team as a senior. He produced a ton of offense, both through scoring and assists, and had dynamic performances in Indiana’s run to the Sweet Sixteen during his senior season. He went undrafted, but played parts of five seasons in the NBA, settling more recently into a career overseas.
