NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Iowa of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Peter Jok – Iowa
This is still the state of Iowa piece, even though we’re looking closely at yet another Hawkeye. Jok was a 6’6 guard from West Des Moines who found his way to this Hawkeyes squad in 2013. He was another player who made meager contributions from the start but blossomed into a star on the national scale by the time his career was over.
Jok played a minor role his first two seasons, but his time as an upperclassman was impressive. He had a 29-point outburst in a conference tournament loss to Illinois and scoring a career-high 42 points as a senior in a tough loss to Memphis. His number skyrocketed, averaging 19.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a senior, with somewhat comparable numbers the year prior. He played three NCAA Tournaments but had to settle for the NIT during his senior season, with a pair of a 22-point effort in a loss to TCU ending his career.
Jok was named All-Big Ten First Team for his fantastic efforts as a senior. Despite the team having a somewhat down season, Jok still played a starring role, leading the conference in points, free throw percentage, and total usage, becoming a valuable weapon for the Hawkeyes. Jok was not drafted when his career ended in 2017 and has spent the last few seasons playing overseas, though he did have a stretch playing in the G-League.
