NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Iowa of last decade
By Joey Loose
4. Tyger Campbell – UCLA
Just your average 5’11 point guard from Cedar Rapids, Campbell has certainly found success in the college game. After attending prep school in Indiana, Campbell found his way across the country, joining new coach Mick Cronin at UCLA. Campbell has started all 96 games to start his career, becoming an important piece as the Bruins program has been rebooted.
Campbell was already putting up solid numbers as a freshman, with two double-doubles before the pandemic cancelled the end of the season. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 assists per game, starring at point guard as UCLA marched from the First Four to the Final Four. He had 17 points in that all-time thrilling loss against Gonzaga. His junior season was similarly successful, with slightly better statistics and three more double-digit scoring efforts as UCLA made a run to the Sweet Sixteen.
He’s been named to the last two All-Pac-12 First Teams and he’s certainly deserved the honor. Campbell has emerged as one of the nation’s best point guards, finishing among the best in assists numbers throughout his career. He played a major role in that Final Four run in 2021 and will have one final chance next season to make even more magic with this talented Bruins squad.
