NCAA Basketball: Predicting top performer from each top-25 2022 recruiting class
By Matt Melton
10. Skyy Clark – Illinois Fighting Illini
A highly-touted four-star prospect out of national powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida, Clark could be the name to know in the Illinois backcourt. The former Kentucky commit is the arguable favorite to start at point guard for the Fighting Illini this season, and should have a massive impact for Illinois in 2022-23.
9. Jalen Hood-Schifino – Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana has two freshman out of Montverde Academy as well that could make a significant impact in Hood-Schifino and four-star forward Malik Reneau. The five-star is arguably the name of the two to know however, with Hood-Schifino likely having a major impact on the Hoosiers potential success this season.
8. Brice Sensabaugh – Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes also have multiple names to choose from here, as Sensabaugh, Roddy Gayle Jr, Bruce Thornton, and Felix Okpara could all make a notable impact. Sensabaugh, a four-star wing out of Lake Highland Prep School in Florida, is the choice here however as the 6-foot-7 freshman could be among Ohio State’s top scorers from day one.
7. Vince Iwuchukwu – USC Trojans
A five-star product out of in-state Southern California Academy, you will be hard to find more interior players in the 2022 class more talented than Iwuchukwu. The 7-foot center is likely to make a day one impact with the Trojans, and should be one of the top freshman in the Pac-12 this season.
6. Dillon Mitchell – Texas Longhorns
Mitchell is yet another highly-touted prospect off that deep Montverde Academy team from a year ago, coming to Texas as a top five player nationally. While fellow five-star Arterio Morris will also have a key impact for the Longhorns this season, it’s hard to bet against Mitchell as the top freshman producer for Texas in 2022-23, a name who could be one of the best in the Big 12.
