15. Villanova Wildcats

Strength: Culture

Villanova had a massive head coaching change with Hall of Famer Jay Wright retiring suddenly this offseason. But the program made it as smooth a transition process as possible, getting former assistant and Fordham’s head coach Kyle Neptune as his replacement. And no one entered the portal or left the team and more importantly, the entire 2022 recruiting class stayed with the Wildcats as well.

That includes five-star freshman Cam Whitmore, a potential lottery pick in the next NBA Draft. It’s a testament to the culture Villanova has that an announcement that would’ve changed many programs went off without any kind of issue.

Weakness: Kyle Neptune at the Big leagues

I’m grasping at straws a bit here but the roster is in good shape. The only question is whether or not Coach Neptune is ready for the bright lights and being the target in the Big East. He did a great job at Fordham last season with no expectations but at Villanova, it’s always to win the league and make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

And with the roster being top-15 caliber, there’s not going to be much of a grace period for the new head coach to go through his ups and downs. Coach Neptune is fully capable of doing big things with the Wildcats but in the preseason, he’s the one current question mark with the program.
