13. TCU Horned Frogs

Strength: Returning production

The Frogs are one of the few teams that brought back just about everyone from a squad that won 21 total games last season and nearly upset No. 1 seed Arizona in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament. Leading scorer Mike Miles (15.4 ppg) is back, along with starting point Damion Baugh and double-digit scoring forward Emanuel Miller.

If big man Eddie Lampkin has a breakout campaign as a sophomore, that’ll only raise the ceiling of a team already projected to compete near the top of the Big 12 next season. TCU has a nice mix of veterans with proven experience and young players with more room to grow, while also being one of the best defensive units in NCAA Basketball.

Weakness: Three-point shooting

There are many positives involving a team returning everyone for another year. But there can also be negatives, such as when a team was particularly weak in a category or two. In TCU’s case, it’s three-point shooting, ranking 332nd nationally with 30%. The top guards (Miles and Baugh) both shot under 30% from deep and only Charles O’Bannon (34%) was considered a threat.

If the Horned Frogs can get some improvements from the guards and potentially an impact from OK State transfer Rondel Walker, then the offense can take another step next season. Otherwise, it could anchor their potential when it comes to making a run in March.
