6. Kansas Jayhawks

Strength: Offense and defensive balance

What’s interesting about the Jayhawks‘ roster is that it’s filled with players with reputations of being elite scorers or defenders. Five-star freshmen MJ Rice and Gradey Dick are offensive studs, while returning forward Jalen Wilson can be a leading scoring candidate for the team this season.

Then there’s five-star freshman center Ernest Udeh, along with Texas Tech transfer Kevin McCullar and returning starting guard, Dajuan Harris Jr. This allows for various lineups for Kansas to use depending on who fits with who and if head coach Bill Self picks right again, could be headed back to the Final Four.

Weakness: Point guard play

Adding McCullar was an interesting move because he’s looking to play more on-ball after leaving Texas Tech. Remy Martin was a true point guard who led Kansas to the national title but the team now has questions on who the starting backcourt will be. Harris is a great defender but doesn’t scorer, while Bobby Pettiford is a former top-100 prospect who’ll compete for playing time.

Without relying on the likes of Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji to score on the perimeter, the spotlight will be on the ball-handlers for the Jayhawks, including how McCullar fits with them. How it works out will be the top storyline for the team this season.
