With even bigger changes on the horizon for Big Ten Basketball, the current season will look a lot different than the last. Six is a significant number for the Big Ten in 2022-23, it is the number of top ten scorers that have left the conference, as well as the number of coaches who already have more than five seasons of being the bench boss in the conference. Finally, six is also the number of teams that lost in the first weekend of the 2021-22 National Tournament (seven if you count Rutgers losing in the First Four).

The Big Ten will always have interest surrounding it, as one can always count on the Associated Press to put a handful of teams in the Preseason Top 25 and have the conference ride that wave until tournament time.

While many – rightfully – will argue that the overall talent of the Big Ten has diminished, highly skilled players and teams remain throughout the conference. Once the in-conference competition begins, it will capture fans’ attention and create new fans of the conference.  With the 2022-23 season fast approaching here is a look at the eventual recipients of awards and accolades.

Coach of the Year – Mike Woodson

The 2020-21 season saw a vast – and unexpected – improvement by Michigan as they finished atop the Big Ten after finishing 10-10 the season prior. The by-product was Juwan Howard being named the conference’s Coach of the Year. At the end of the 2021-22 season, Wisconsin unexpectedly claimed a piece of the Big Ten Regular Season Championship after a 10-10 record the previous season.

Indiana Basketball finished 9-11 last season and it will not be unexpected when they finish at the top of the conference, but much like Coach Howard and Coach Gard the rise from mid-conference to top of the heap will be enough to get Head Coach Mike Woodson Coach of the Year honors.
