NCAA Basketball: 5 best players from state of Maine of last decade
By Joey Loose
From November to early April, the NCAA basketball season captivates us with performances, moments, and memories. Even the most random nonconference games could produce unforgettable moments, though of course, the NCAA Tournament produces those on a regular basis. The point is that college basketball is unpredictable and crazy and you never know from where the next talked-about moment will come from.
It’s important to discuss this because today we’re continuing our long-running series. This series takes a close look at the best college basketball players from each individual state and we’re already several weeks into the process. Looking at just the last ten years’ worth of players, we are identifying and presenting these lists in alphabetical order, which means that today’s focus is on the state of Maine.
Maine is known for Stephen King books, crab cakes, and having the east coast’s Portland, but it’s not exactly been a hotbed for basketball players. In fact, this is the second article in our series that will only include five players instead of the usual ten. Like with the Hawaii piece a few weeks ago, it simply wasn’t possible to find ten players from the state who contributed at the D1 level. Still, there are a few very talented players from Maine in recent years.
Before we start running through these five names, this is just the annual reminder that this article is about college basketball players who are from the state of Maine, meaning those whose hometowns are listed as in the state. It’s not a big deal in this state, but we don’t include players who were simply born or attended high school there; something to remember for the rest of the pieces in this series. Let’s get right into it, giving some focus to perhaps some unfamiliar names from the state of Maine.
