NCAA Basketball: 5 best players from state of Maine of last decade
By Joey Loose
5. Nick Fiorillo – Vermont
A stud in Scarborough, Fiorillo is a 6’7 forward who found his way to Vermont in 2019. He redshirted his first season and is Just two years into his collegiate eligibility. At this point, Fiorillo hasn’t yet really gotten his chance to make an impact. However, he’s part of one of the best mid-major programs in the northeast, and has already shown enough to be one of the memorable players from Maine.
Fiorillo saw game-action just eleven times as a freshman, but had nice efforts in a back-to-back with NJIT, scoring 8 points in the first game and 9 in the second. He’s been more of a factor as a sophomore, playing all of Vermont’s games and picking up a couple of starts, including in an opening night win at Northern Iowa. Fiorillo had a 18-point, 7-rebound effort in a win against NJIT and later had a 14-point game on the road at Maine.
In limited chances, Fiorillo had a few successful moments and should figure to play an even bigger role as an upperclassman in the coming years. It’s hard to say anything conclusive with such few opportunities to this point, but Fiorillo certainly seems to be growing into an effective weapon in this Vermont frontcourt. He should get that chance to show it next year, returning for his junior year with the Catamounts.
