3. Tom Knight – Notre Dame

Maine’s best high school basketball player in 2009, Knight is a 6’10 forward who took his talents a few states west, settling in at Notre Dame. Knight was never a vital piece, but found his way to contribute while with the Fighting Irish. He did not play in his first season, but after redshirting he saw the court the next four seasons, with his junior year certainly the highlight.

Knight saw very limited action as a freshman but got a few chances as a sophomore, including 8 points and 5 rebounds in a start against Dartmouth. He joined the starting lineup in January of his junior season and had a number of nice games, including an 18-point, 9-rebound effort in the Big East Tournament against Rutgers. Knight also had 14 points in an NCAA Tournament loss to Iowa State. He picked up a few starts during his senior season, but that third year was certainly his most productive.

Knight had 4 blocks in a game against St. John’s during that junior year and actually racked up a decent amount for a part-time player that season. He’s not the most memorable name among recent Fighting Irish, but any player that scores double-digits for a Big East team in the Big Dance should hold his head high. Knight had a solid five years in South Bend and did pretty well for a basketball player from Maine.
