NCAA Basketball: 5 best players from state of Maine of last decade
By Joey Loose
2. Andrew Fleming – Maine
A 6’7 forward from Norway, Fleming found his way to plenty of success at the high school level and continued that with success in college too. He arrived at school at Maine in 2016, spending four seasons with the Bears, with nearly all of that coming as a critical piece of the starting lineup. Across those four years, he’d have quite the impact for the Bears.
His freshman campaign saw him average 10.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, already becoming an important piece for the Bears. He had a 20-point effort early in his career and had a 23-point, 14-rebound game against Brown. By the end of his career, he was an even more important part of the offense, averaging 14.2 points per game as a senior, while having a career-high 38-point performance as a junior against UMass Lowell. He wasn’t part of very successful teams, but he showed off his talent on the court.
Despite Maine’s struggles, Fleming’s efforts were still recognized, as he was on the America East’s All-Freshman team and later the All-AEC team twice as an upperclassman. He was one of the conference’s better rebounders throughout his career and played a very important role on this Bears program during that stretch of time. Even if they came at a struggling program like Maine, those numbers are still pretty good and Fleming certainly made his mark.
