25. Virginia Tech Hokies

Despite not having All-ACC forward Keve Aluma anymore, the Hokies have a quality frontcourt for next season. Justyn Mutts flies under the radar as one of the more versatile forwards in NCAA Basketball. He averaged 10.1 ppg last season for Virginia Tech but more importantly, led the team with 7.4 rpg and 3.4 apg.

To replace Aluma’s offense will be Grant Basile, a 6’9 transfer forward from Wright State. He had a career-high senior season as a full-time starter, averaging 18.4 ppg and 8.5 rpg last season. That included some big performances such as 37 points at Marshall, along with 23 points and 16 rebounds at NC State. He’s known as a great post scorer but not reliable on the defensive end. Mutts will be taking on the top opposing challenge in the frontcourt but how Basile transitions to the ACC level will be key to Virginia Tech’s chances.

Another newcomer to the frontcourt is Mylyjael Poteat, a 6’9 and 260-pound big man from Rice. Despite his size, he’s capable of playing both positions and is a good athlete overall. He only played 14 mpg off the bench as a sophomore, averaging 7.7 ppg and 4.2 rpg. So he’s productive when he’s on the court and the hope is that he can be a 6th Man for the Hokies.

Add top-50 transfer wing John Camden from Memphis to lock down the small forward position, and there’s a lot of promise for Virginia Tech. But Mutts is the only proven guy at this level right now, which limits where they can be in the rankings.
