By Joey Loose
10. Monte Morris – Iowa State
A four-star recruit from Flint, Morris found his way to prominence at the collegiate level after a very successful high school career. A 6’2 guard, Morris arrived at Iowa State in 2013, playing a pair of seasons each under Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm, participating in a run of success for the Cyclones.
Morris became a starter halfway through his freshman year and watched his numbers soar as his career progressed. He helped the Cyclones to three Big 12 Tournament titles and had a number of solid performances in the NCAA Tournament. His senior season saw him average 16.4 points and 6.2 assists per game, including a triple-double in a win over The Citadel. Overall, he helped lead Iowa State to five NCAA Tournament victories, scoring in double figures in all but one of those nine games.
Morris was named All-Big 12 three times, including First Team as a senior, while also winning Big 12 Tournament MVP during that season. He led the conference in assists multiple times and was a very important person among that crazy run of success for the Cyclones. He was a late draft pick in 2017 and has been in the NBA for the last five seasons, spending most of that time with the Denver Nuggets.
