NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Michigan of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Bryn Forbes – Cleveland State / Michigan State
Forbes is one of those players who took full advantage of the ability to transfer long before the transfer portal became such a phenomenon. A 6’3 guard from Lansing, he spent two seasons starring at Cleveland State before heading back home, spending his final two seasons under Tom Izzo at Michigan State. He was an important weapon for Gary Waters and the Vikings before becoming valuable in a second team’s backcourt.
At Cleveland State, Forbes was a steady performer from the beginning, averaging 14.1 points per game across those two seasons with the Vikings. As a sophomore, he had a 27-point effort as part of Cleveland State’s 10-game winning streak to end the regular season. At Michigan State, Forbes wasn’t as vital but still played an important role as a shooter for the Spartans. He helped take Michigan State to the Final Four in 2015, scoring 14 points in an Elite Eight win over Louisville before hitting 48% of his long-range shots as a senior.
Forbes earned his place on the All-Horizon Second Team as a sophomore and All-Big Ten Second Team as a senior. In each of those seasons, he led his conference in 3-point percentage and was one of the highest-rated offensive players in the Big Ten in 2016. Forbes went undrafted a few months later but has found a place in the NBA over the last six years, winning an NBA title with the Milwaukee Bucks one year ago.
