5. Yante Maten – Georgia

Georgia has not been a great basketball program in recent years, but Maten was part of a Bulldogs program that was still putting up respectable seasons. A 6’8 forward from Pontiac, he was recruited by Mark Fox and arrived on campus in 2014, starring for the latter three seasons and helping the Bulldogs to a number of wins in the SEC.

Maten played a bench role as a freshman but did play in the 2015 NCAA Tournament with the Bulldogs. Across his final three seasons, he became a focal point for the offense, with impressive scoring and rebounding numbers, including a career-high 33 points in an NIT win against Belmont. As a senior, those numbers were up to 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds a game, really accumulating double-doubles across his career. The Bulldogs won 78 games in his four seasons, with is significantly more than they’ve won in the four years since he graduated.

Maten was All-SEC Second Team as a junior and First Team as a senior, playing a major role on offense for the Bulldogs. He even led the entire SEC in points during that final season and sits among the all-time conference leaders in rebounding for his career. Maten has played professionally since his career ended, with time in the NBA G-League before heading overseas.
