NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Michigan of last decade
By Joey Loose
3. Josh Jackson – Kansas
Jackson was the top-rated prospect in the high school class of 2016. A 6’8 guard and forward, he was tremendously talented and highly recruited coming out of high school, eventually landing at Kansas under Bill Self. He’d spend just a single season in college with the Jayhawks, but took full advantage of that lone season, putting up some pretty staggering numbers.
Jackson averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in that lone college season. He had numerous impressive games during Big 12 play, including a 31-point outburst at Texas Tech. An all-around talent, he helped lead the Jayhawks to the Elite Eight, with a 23-point effort in a win over Michigan State, from his home state. He also produced double-doubles in both second-weekend games in the Big Dance.
He looked the part of a top recruit, and was honored as Big 12 Rookie of the Year. He was on the First Team All-Big 12 and was put on numerous All-American lists as well. His season saw him put up solid numbers across the board, ranking in the top 10 in the conference in points, steals, and field goals. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the 4th pick of the 2017 NBA Draft but hasn’t had quite the same type of impact at the professional level.
