NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Minnesota of last decade
By Joey Loose
8. David Roddy – Colorado State
When Niko Medved took over the Colorado State program, there was a lot of work to be done, but Roddy is part of the reason why the Rams are back in a big way. A 6’5 guard from Minneapolis, Roddy arrived on campus in 2019 and spent three seasons developing into a star for the Rams, guiding them back to national prominence and to the NCAA Tournament this past March.
His freshman season saw him really progress into a starter and a force on both sides of the ball. By sophomore season, he has averaged nearly double-digit rebounds, including a 27-point, 15-rebound effort in a win over Boise State. His junior season was the finest effort, averaging 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and leading Colorado State back to the NCAA Tournament, including a monumental 36-point performance in an early season win over a great Creighton team.
Twice honored as First Team All-MWC, Roddy was also named MWC Player of the Year for that fantastic junior season. He led the conference in field goal percentage and was among the league leaders in points, rebounds, and blocks as well. He had a tremendous impact on reviving this Rams program but skipped out of school after three seasons. He was drafted in the late first round and is expected to play in the NBA this upcoming season.
