NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Mississippi of last decade
By Joey Loose
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and that’s certainly the case in every corner of the United States. Seemingly regardless of age or gender, a lot of people tune into the NCAA Basketball Tournament every March. Many people remember the glory days and memorable moments of tournaments past, while the younger generations are only just picking up a basketball, dreaming of their chance to play in the Big Dance one day.
It’s that younger generation that we’ll be focusing on today but in a more specific setting. We’re continuing our long-running series that looks at the best college basketball players over the last decade from each individual state, meaning we’re focusing on the recent generation of college basketball standouts. No matter the locations of these schools or conferences, each state has contributed a myriad of players to the collegiate level and that’s no different for the state of Mississippi.
High school basketball in Mississippi has produced some intriguing talent in recent years, perhaps even more than it seems. We aren’t talking about a state like New York or California that regularly churns out five-star prospects, but these aren’t low-major players either. Today’s list has a nice mix of standout players, with a few power conference stars and mid-major ones as well. Know that this is not a piece about players who went to college in Mississippi, though a few of those schools just might feature in the upcoming slides.
If a player’s hometown is located in the state of Mississippi, then there’s a chance they’ll be in this list; otherwise, they’ll likely be listed in another state. While this state might not have the depth of some others, Mississippi still managed to give us at least ten fantastic basketball players over the last decade, with plenty of others that we couldn’t include on the list. Without further ado, let’s get right into that list, focusing on these players from Mississippi.
