NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Mississippi of last decade
By Joey Loose
4. Jaylen Forbes – Alabama / Tulane
A top 100 prospect back in the class of 2019, Forbes has found himself some significant success in recent years. A 6’5 guard from Florence, he originally committed to Alabama, playing his freshman year under new coach Nate Oats, but didn’t really carve out a role with the Crimson Tide. Forbes transferred over to Tulane and has played a starring role these last two seasons for the Green Wave.
After that meager freshman campaign at Alabama, Forbes became the leading scorer at Tulane, averaging 16.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during his sophomore season. Late in the year, he had a 37-point performance at Cincinnati and was just as potent this past season. Forbes helped lead the Green Wave to their first finish above .500 since joining the AAC and had a number of dynamic performances late in the year.
Forbes was named to the All-AAC teams for each of those past two seasons, named to the Second Team as a junior. He led the conference in effective field goal percentage, hitting 38% of his 3-pointers and making an impact all over the court. He’s part of a very talented core returning to Tulane next season; a season that could be one of the best in recent memory for the Green Wave.
