NCAA Basketball: Most important player on each top-25 team for 2022-23 season
20. Dayton Flyers – Toumani Camara
The 6’8 transfer forward from Georgia was good with the Flyers, second on the team with 10.9 ppg and 6.9 rpg last season. But it wasn’t all roses, as Camara’s fit with freshman starting center DaRon Holmes was as best awkward at times. Holmes is a true big man that stays in the post, while Camara is at his best when he does the same. He did shoot 34% from three-point range on 65 attempts so he’s capable of spreading the floor but that’s not his strength.
If things can get more smooth in the frontcourt between them, Dayton’s offense has the chance to go to new heights. And Camara will have to have a bigger impact on the defensive end at the four-spot when he goes up against smaller lineups. He’s one of the oldest players on the roster and while he isn’t the best known, the starting forward will be one of the most impactful.
19. San Diego State Aztecs – Jaedon Ledee
The former top-75 prospect is at his third stop and missed all of last season with an injury. In limited time, Ledee has shown that he has offensive potential and the Aztecs don’t really have a true power forward on the roster other than him, so they’ll need the 6’8 big to have an impact.
Starting center Nathan Mensah is a quality defender but isn’t a great offensive threat so for the sake of offensive balance, San Diego State will need Ledee to have that breakout campaign. If he does, this is a team that can dominate the Mountain West.
