After winning a national title, you can expect that Baylor Basketball would be doing well on the recruiting trail. Jason Asemota is the latest proof of it.

Baylor Basketball head coach Scott Drew has always been a good recruiter, consistently landing and developing top-100 talent. But after going 28-2 and winning the 2021 national championship, his ability to recruit went ten-fold.

It started with Kendall Brown, a five-star prospect in the 2021 class and an eventual one-and-done player in the NBA. Then there’s Keyonte George, a top-10 incoming freshman and also likely going pro after this upcoming season. And the team already has his replacement committed in  Ja’Kobe Walter, another five-star shooting guard/wing in the 2023 class.

The Bears have become a destination place for the top prospects in Texas and nationally and are now a consistent top-15 team in the country. And it’s not stopping, with the program landing yet another five-star recruit in Jason Asemota, who is ranked in the top-20 overall in the 2024 class.

Asemota is a 6’8 small forward with plenty of size and potential. He’s a quality shooter from all over the floor and has the ability to be an elite scorer. He’s the first commit in the 2024 class for the program and keeps the elite wings coming down the road. Assuming the rankings remain the same a couple of years from now, that’ll be four straight years Baylor gets a five-star prospect in its class.

Even with an elite player coming, the program still is built on the development of all of its players, while also being a place where transfers from the portal have been interested. MaCio Teague and Adam Flagler are examples from the title team, while Jalen Bridges is the key newcomer for the team this offseason from the portal.

Baylor Basketball has reached the status as one of the new “blue bloods” and as long as Coach Scott Drew is around, the team will remain in the elite tier. And with the 2023 and 2024 classes already featuring top prospects, they’re in better shape than almost anyone in the country at this point.
