NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top-100 point guard Jizzle James final 3 teams
Jizzle James may be the son of an NFL Hall of Famer but is carving out his own path as a top NCAA Basketball recruit. Who’s in the mix to land him?
There are plenty of NCAA Basketball prospects with a football background or even had a parent who played the sport. But few can say their parents were Hall of Famers like Jizzle James can. His father is Edgerrin James, one of the greatest running backs of the modern era, rushing for over 12,000 yards in 11 seasons most of them with the Indianapolis Colts.
His son has proven to be an elite athlete in his own right in Jizzle, a top-100 prospect in the 2023 class. He’s a 6’1 true point guard that as you would expect, is as tough as they come. James is an underrated shooter but can get to the basket as well while being a tough-nosed defender. His playmaking and passing are above average and continue to develop and his intangibles, already make him likely to have a big impact at the next level.
With just three programs left, which of them makes the most sense for James? Here’s a closer look at how he potentially fits with each.
Cincinnati Bearcats
The Bearcats are moving to the Big 12 a year from now and need a point guard that has the toughness to last there. The team also has a pair of senior guards in David DeJulius and Rob Phinisee that’ll be moving on, so James could potentially start there as soon as his freshman season. They’re also in the mix for five-star recruit Isaiah Collier so his decision could impact what James does.
Georgia Bulldogs
New head coach Mike White had completely turned over the roster, adding six transfers. That includes a trio of ball-handlers in Mardrez McBride, Terry Roberts, and Justin Hill. Roberts has the most potential of succeeding after averaging 14.5 ppg and 4.1 apg at Bradley but how he translates to the SEC is a question. It’s arguably the top conference in terms of talent and James would certainly get playing time with the rebuilding program but there might not be a ton of winning at first.
LSU Tigers
LSU is also rebuilding under new head coach Matt McMahon, including three transfer guards. Two of them are mid-major players in Trae Hannibal and Justice Hill, along with NC State combo guard Cam Hayes. James is someone that could come in and run the offense at LSU but again, the backcourt scenarios could go a number of ways until we see who gets established this upcoming season.
All three options offer Jizzle James the potential of plenty of playing time but the near-guaranteed place to do that is Cincinnati. But with them going to the Big 12, they could be “rebuilding” just as much as the other two programs, depending on their own transition. It’ll be an interesting recruitment to follow and one of these three teams will eventually land a top-100 talent.
