4. Jamison Battle – Minnesota Golden Gophers

2021-22 stats: 17.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg

There was a question as to how Battle’s game would translate after transferring from George Washington but instead, his numbers got even better. The 6’7 forward singlehandedly made them competitive in the first half of last season, including 27 points in the early upset win over Michigan. Battle was in double figures in all but two games and had a career-high 39 points at Maryland.

Battle is arguably the best offensive player in the Big Ten and with a new supporting cast could lead the Gophers to contention in the league. He’s a high-volume shooter and scorer and can make three-pointers from very deep range. There’s a clear top-3 in the conference but the best of the rest starts with Battle.

3. Zach Edey – Purdue Boilermakers

2021-22 stats: 14.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg

Edey played just 19 mpg last season, mainly due to having another star center on the roster (Trevion Williams), as well as having some conditioning questions being 7’4. But when he’s on the court, the big man is nearly unstoppable once he gets the ball in the paint. Edey had performances such as 21 points against Villanova, 25 points versus Michigan State, and 24 and 10 against Wisconsin.

Edey’s offensive potential may be the highest of any big man in the country but there are some defensive limitations, as well as an inability to space the floor. The versatility of the top-3 puts Edey here but if he plays 30 mpg next season and keeps the same pace, has All-American potential.
