NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Montana of last decade
By Joey Loose
10. Brendan Howard – North Dakota
We begin today’s list with a look at a player who has taken a bizarre path through his college career. A 6’6 forward from Great Falls, Howard spent his first year at Eastern Washington but never played for the Eagles, instead starring at MSU-Billings for a few seasons. He spent this most recent season with North Dakota, but left campus halfway through the season, transferring yet again.
Still, Howard put up some solid numbers with the Fighting Hawks, even if he was displeased with the opportunities he was given. He averaged 7.3 points per game in very limited minutes, with the highlight clearly being an 18-point effort in a win over Montana. Howard had another 18-point performance in his final game at North Dakota.
Howard will play next season at the University of Providence in his home city; not the prominent school in the Big East. He showed flashes of brilliance in his brief stint at the D1 level, though something certainly didn’t meet expectations. He was one of the state of Montana’s best high school basketball players in recent times; it just didn’t equate to success or prominence at the D1 level.
