1. Mike Daum – South Dakota State

A 6’9 forward from Kimball, there’s little doubt that Daum is one of the most impressive and successful mid-major stars in recent years. He made his way to South Dakota State in 2015 and didn’t leave campus until rewriting their basketball history and record books within the next four seasons.

Barely starting as a freshman, he still averaged more than 15 points a game and put up 18 points in a close NCAA Tournament loss to Maryland. His final three seasons he was a standout for the Jackrabbits, averaging at least 23 points per game each season while watching his rebounding numbers skyrocket. He had a career-high 51 points in a win over IPFW and had a 34-point, 21-rebound effort over North Dakota. He had two more fine performances in the Big Dance, before averaging 25.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game as a senior.

Daum was Summit League Player of the Year three times in a row, an unprecedented run of success. Not only did he lead the conference in points, rebounds, and field goal percentage multiple times, but he finished top 10 in the nation in points all three seasons and left school among the top 10 leaders in college basketball history in points, with impressive rebounding numbers as well. Daum was an explosive, talented, and important player at South Dakota State and has continued his career professionally overseas in the three years since his departure.
