Atlantic 10 Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2022-23 season

13. George Washington

GW surprised some folks by finishing 9th in the A10 last season (8-9 record in conference), but it’s difficult to see new HC Chris Caputo having enough tools at his disposal to improve on that number in his first season.

James Bishop will be there as always to count on for 17+ points per game, but promising Freshman Guard Brayon Freeman got snapped up by Archie Miller, and neither the overall star-power nor the depth (though there’s more to like about the latter) looks as though they’ll be enough to keep this team in the middle of the standings.

Hunter Dean, Ricky Lindo, and Nolan Brown are all decent returning role players, and it’s possible that newcomers like Max Edwards or EJ Clark really step up to the plate in year one, but this was hardly a homerun offseason from Caputo and co. as far as freshmen and transfer adds. Keegan Harvey is another player who could potentially be a player worth mentioning, but it’s difficult to project that after he averaged just 3.1 points per game in the CAA (College of Charleston).

There is definitely a range here with as many unfamiliar faces as there are and a first-time HC running the show, so it’s possible that GW mirrors the relative success of last season and cracks the top 10, but anything beyond that seems like a tall order, and the floor for this team is not a high one.
