NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of New Hampshire of last decade
By Joey Loose
1. Geo Baker – Rutgers
You can just look at the box scores or rankings to determine a player’s worth, but what Baker meant to his program was certainly more than anyone else on today’s list. The 6’4 guard from Derry starred at multiple high schools before ending up at Rutgers, starring for coach Steve Pikiell across five seasons, taking advantage of the bonus year from the pandemic.
Baker spent nearly his entire career not just as a starting guard for the Scarlet Knights but as a prominent force. He averaged double-digit points per game, put up impressive assist numbers, and helped completely revitalize basketball at Rutgers. As a senior, he helped lead Rutgers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years and their first victory in nearly 40, scoring 13 points in a win over Clemson.
He was twice named to the All-Big Ten Third Team and was a consistent player across five seasons in Piscataway. We could nitpick at the stats; he had decent steals and assists numbers, but his role in turning this Scarlet Knights program into a tournament contender will always stand out. He has announced that his basketball career, but we likely haven’t seen the last of Baker making a positive impact at Rutgers.
At long last, we have completed our run through of the best college basketball players of the last decade from the state of New Hampshire; how did we do with today’s list?
