NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of New Jersey of last decade

7. Breein Tyree – Ole Miss
Considered a three-star prospect, Tyree is a 6’2 guard from Somerset who was getting some interest before settling on Ole Miss for his collegiate career. He arrived on campus in 2016, playing two years apiece for Andy Kennedy and Kermit Davis. While he was a starter early in his career, he really developed into a star in those later seasons under Davis’s tenure.
Tyree battled through injuries as a freshman and had a more consistent sophomore season, but it’s his upperclassman years that stand out. As a junior, he averaged 17.9 points per game and helped lead the Rebels back to the NCAA Tournament. The following season he had even more impressive numbers and scored a career-high 40 points in a win over Rival Mississippi State. He had numerous offensive outings like that, averaging nearly 20 points a game on the season.
Tyree was named All-SEC First Team for each of those final two seasons, a pretty impressive feat for a player from Ole Miss. He was among the conference leaders in points and steals as an upperclassman and certainly played an enormous role in the early success with Davis as head coach. After the pandemic ended his collegiate career, he was not drafted but spent time in the G-League before continuing his professional career overseas.
