NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of New Mexico of last decade
By Joey Loose
2. Scott Bamforth – Weber State
Coming out of high school, Bamforth was a 6’2 guard from Albuquerque with impressive numbers, but found his way to continue his career at Western Nebraska CC. After suffering an injury and sitting out a season due to transfer rules, Bamforth would play the final three years of his eligibility at Weber State, becoming an important piece for a Wildcats team that was the best in the Big Sky during his stint with the program.
After an impressive season in junior college, Bamforth slid right into the fold at Weber State, becoming a starter quickly and averaging 12.2 points per game during his sophomore season. In each of his final two seasons, he’d average at least 14 points per game, while knocking down 45% of his 3-pointers as a senior. That season he also helped lead Weber State to a 30-win season and a long run in the CIT.
Bamforth was one of the top shooters in the conference across his entire three years and was named All-Big Sky each season, including First Team honors as a sophomore and senior. He ranks among the most accurate long-range shooters of the last twenty years in all of college basketball and ranked as the best offensive player in the Big Sky during his final campaign. This talented shooter has now spent nearly a decade playing professionally overseas, with his most recent success coming in the French and Spanish leagues.
