NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of New York of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Anthony Lamb – Vermont
Throughout recent memory, Vermont has been one of the more dominant mid-major programs in the country, always seeming to either win or contend for the America East titles. Lamb, a 6’6 forward from Rochester, was a big reason for part of that success during his four years on campus. He arrived in Vermont in 2016, starting nearly all of the 118 games he played across the next four seasons, missing a large chunk of his sophomore season with a foot injury.
Lamb scored 23 points in his first career game, but that was just a hint at the kind of scorer and shooter that he’d become. He really emerged during his junior season, averaging 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and leading the Catamounts to his second NCAA Tournament. Lamb scored a career-high 42 points in an impressive double-overtime win over St. Bonaventure and had his team ready for a third trip to the Big Dance before the pandemic cancelled the Tournament.
Lamb wasn’t just a star at Vermont, he was one of the America East’s best players during his time in college. He was Rookie of the Year, Tournament MVP twice, and also took home the conference’s Player of the Year awards in each of his final two seasons. He actually led the conference in points, rebounds, and several offensive and defensive metrics in multiple seasons. Lamb has briefly played in the NBA the last two seasons, but has mostly seen time in the G League.
