NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of North Carolina of last decade
By Joey Loose
1. Chris Clemons – Campbell
One of the most unfortunate things in recent times was that Clemons never played in the NCAA Tournament while at Campbell, settling instead for appearances in the NIT, CIT, and CBI. A 5’9 guard from Raleigh, he may have seemed small, but he put up offensive in outstanding numbers, becoming one of the top scorers in the history of college basketball.
Clemons was a top-level scorer from the very start of his career, including a career-high 51 points in a conference tournament game as a sophomore. While also putting up decent steal and assist numbers, he averaged 18.5 points as a freshman, 25.1 as a sophomore, and 24.9 as a junior. His senior year saw him at his most impressive, leading the Camels to a Big South regular season title while averaging 30.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Clemons was Big South Player of the Year as a senior, and likely deserved the award multiple times, settling for three straight All-Big South First Team honors. He led the entire nation in scoring as a senior and ranks 3rd all-time in the history of the sport in total points, racking up 3225 across those four incredible seasons.
He’s the conference’s all-time leader in points, field goals, and free throw percentage, while some of his analytical stats are off the charts. He’s played most recently in the G-League but got brief run in the NBA after going undrafted in 2019. He may not have had his March Madness moment, but he had quite the impact on the game of basketball.
We have finished our long look at the best college basketball players of the last ten years from the state of New York; were there any obvious or glaring mistakes in today’s piece or did we get the order right?
