NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Oklahoma of last decade
By Joey Loose
7. Rotnei Clarke – Arkansas / Butler
Certainly known as a sharpshooter back in the day, Clarke is a 6’0 guard from Verdigris who was actually a top 100 recruit back in the class of 2008. He started his collegiate career at Arkansas, starring for three seasons under coach John Pelphrey. When Pelphrey was fired, Clarke transferred, spending his final year at Butler during the Bulldogs’ lone season in the A-10 and final year under Brad Stevens.
Clarke was an important piece at Arkansas, immediately starting as a freshman and averaging 12.2 points per game. In both his junior and senior seasons, he led the Razorbacks in scoring, averaging greater than 15 points a game and shooting at least 42% from long range in both years. As a sophomore, he had a 51-point outing against Alcorn State in which he hit 13 3-pointers. His final season at Butler saw him lead the Bulldogs with 16.9 points per game and more clutch shooting while appearing in his first and only NCAA Tournament to end his career.
Clarke was named Second Team All-SEC before transferring and led that conference in 3-point shooting multiple times. He was then an All-A-10 First Team honoree, finishing among the conference’s best scorers and shooters in Butler’s lone year in the league. While he wasn’t drafted, the talented sharpshooter has continued his career overseas for much of the past decade, playing most recently in Poland and Italy.
