NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Rhode Island of last decade
By Joey Loose
4. Andrew Chrabascz – Butler
The state of Rhode Island has produced a variety of successful players, even ones who star hundreds of miles away in the Big East. Chrabascz is a 6’7 forward from Portsmouth who made his way to Butler, playing for the Bulldogs right after coach Brad Stevens departed the program. In his final three years, he was a starting forward under Chris Holtmann and certainly played a role in the Bulldogs’ burst of success.
There was nothing disappointing about his freshman season, but he was an even better player moving forward. In each of those last three seasons, he averaged at least 10 points per game from the Butler frontcourt. He scored a career-high 30 points in a road win over Marquette as a sophomore. Chrabascz helped the school to four NCAA Tournament wins in three appearances and actually scored at least 20 points in all three of their losses, giving his all when it mattered most.
Chrabascz was named All-Big East First Team for a very solid senior season in 2017, this coming after earning honors as a freshman as well. He was an important figure all over the court for the Bulldogs, who certainly made a great impression in their first few years in the Big East. He’d continue playing basketball professionally overseas, most recently playing in Poland, after standing out as one of Butler’s better impact players in the time since the Final Four runs.
