Ingram’s return is big for Stanford

Haase has 80% of his starting five returning, but given the fact that Jaiden Delaire had been supplanted in the starting lineup by max Murrell in the Pac-12 tournament,  the starting lineup returns in full. Last season Stanford had the 3rd tallest team in college basketball. The Cardinal trotted out a lineup that saw four guys standing 6’7 or taller. With both Jones and Ingram returning that should be the case this year as well.

The lone short guy in the group is point guard Michael O’Connell who is 6’2. While O’Connell averaged over seven points per game, he is far more a facilitator than an offensive threat. The offense for a team that struggled to 66 points per game comes from Jones and Ingram. Jones not only led the team in scoring but was the team’s best perimeter shooter at just over 37%.

Ingram returns after leading the team in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game and dishing out three assists to go along with his 10 points. The other returning starter is senior James Keefe who is the Cardinal’s reliable force in the paint and can be counted on for his five points and four rebounds.

The only open spot in the lineup with the departure of Delaire will likely go to an incumbent, but not Max Murrell who started in the Pac-12 tournament, but 6’8 junior Brandon Angel who saw the increased minutes when Delaire’s role took a hit. It is possible one of the incoming freshmen Jaylen Thompson or Ryan Agarwal could take the spot but angel will likely get the first crack.
