NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of South Carolina of last decade
By Joey Loose
1. Zion Williamson – Duke
One of the top recruits in the 2018 recruiting class, Williamson made his way to Duke and had a legendary season with the Blue Devils. A 6’7 forward from Spartanburg, Williamson was a freak athlete and impressive talent who had a magnificent year at Duke, emerging and defending his ranking as one of the best young players in the nation.
Williamson averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds a game in his only collegiate season. He missed a few weeks late in the year with a foot injury but came back with a charge, helping lead Duke to an ACC Tournament title and appearance in the Elite Eight. He scored a career-high 35 points against Syracuse, had a 32-point effort versus UCF in the NCAA Tournament, and had a 17-rebound game against Boston College in early February.
That season saw Williamson set the career record for 2-point field goal percentage while cleaning up most of the awards. One of the nation’s best offensive and defensive players, he was the AP Player of the Year, ACC Player, and Rookie of the Year, and collected a number of other honors, including ACC Tournament MVP. His legendary effort saw him get drafted 1st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft; he’s been a vital piece for the New Orleans Pelicans ever since.
At long last, our run-through of the best college basketball players of the last ten years from the state of South Carolina is complete; do you agree with how these rankings turned out?
