5. Devontae Shuler – Ole Miss

A 6’2 shooting guard originally from Irmo, Shuler made his way to Ole Miss, spending his entire 4-year career with the Rebels in the SEC. He was a full-time starter in his final three seasons, developing into one of the best guards in a talented and loaded SEC.

He showed signs of brilliance as a freshman, with a 19-point effort against South Dakota State, but really developed into a star under new coach Kermit Davis. Shuler averaged double-digit points per game each of his final three seasons, helping lead the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament during his sophomore season. He was the program’s most important offensive player as a senior, averaging 15.3 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds a game, including a career-high 31-point effort at South Carolina.

Shuler finished among the conference leaders in both assists and steals in each of those final three seasons and was named First Team All-SEC to finish off his career. He was a vital piece for a decent Ole Miss squad, putting up impressive numbers in Rebels program history. Shuler was not drafted last summer but spent much of last season playing in the G-League, still standing out as an above-average guard on the court.
