NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Tennessee of last decade
By Joey Loose
6. Jonathan Stark – Tulane / Murray State
This is another one of those players who transferred down, but it was absolutely for the better for Stark. A 6’0 guard from Munford, it can be easily argued that he transferred up, spending his first two seasons starring at Tulane before heading to Murray State. He was an important piece at Tulane but turned into a star in those final two years with the Racers.
Stark averaged 14.5 points per game as a freshman in the C-USA before he and the Green Wave took a slight step back the following season in the AAC. After sitting out a season while he transferred, Stark became a major star at Murray State. He averaged at least 21 points per game in each season, totaling 5.2 assists a game and a 42% mark from long range during that junior year. He had a career-high 41 points in a conference tournament win over Tennessee Tech and helped lead the Racers to the NCAA Tournament to finish off his playing career.
Stark was named OVC Player of the Year as a senior, but both of his years at Murray State were impressive. He led the conference in points, 3-pointers, and many offensive metrics in both of those seasons, with that 26-win campaign during his senior season clearly the highlight of his career. Stark went undrafted in 2018 and has spent much of his professional career overseas after a brief run in the G-League.
