If you thought Dan Hurley and UConn Basketball were done on the recruiting trail, they added yet another player in the 2023 class in Youssouf Singare.

When UConn Basketball re-joined the Big East a few years ago, it was expected that the recruiting would go up a notch. Yet late in September, few would’ve thought that the program would currently have the No. 3 overall class, according to 247sports.

After going transfer-heavy this past offseason, the Huskies have made the 2023 class the main focus. They got off to a great start with combo guard Stephon Castle, who is currently a five-star recruit. His commitment was shortly followed up by guard Solomon Ball, along with wings, Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross.

And now, the program has landed commitment No. 5 in Youssouf Singare.

He’s the first true frontcourt prospect to join the 2023 class. Singare is a four-star recruit, listed at 7’0 and 225 pounds, and is a quality athlete and floor-runner. His strength is on defense, as he’s a capable shot-blocker and interior defender and could potentially be as good as current starting center, Adama Sanogo.

The Huskies already have four-star freshman center, Donovan Clingan, on the roster and he’s the next up once Sanogo leaves. He’s more of a skilled center that can shoot and is more offensive-minded, making him the opposite of Singare. This gives Coach Dan Hurley multiple options in the frontcourt based on the situation and if Clingan is capable of playing at the four-spot, maybe these two can play together.

One potential impact of this commitment is that UConn likely is out of the Isaiah Miranda sweepstakes. He’s a top-40 prospect in the 2023 class that recently had the Huskies among his list of options but Singare and Clingan around make it crowded at the center position.

Is it possible that UConn can add one more prospect to this class? They still have a need at the power forward position but may look for a veteran next offseason. But even if they’re done, this is a highly impressive group assembled for the program for the future.
