NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Utah of last decade
By Joey Loose
5. C. J. Wilcox – Washington
On today’s list, it seems rare to find a player who didn’t star in his home state, but Wilcox left Utah for greener pastures in the northwest. This 6’5 guard from Pleasant Grove arrived on campus in Seattle in 2010, spending four seasons with Washington in the Pac-12. Though he redshirted his first season and initially a reserve, Wilcox grew into a vital piece on this Huskies team by the end of his playing career.
Wilcox had a 24-point effort against UCLA but was mostly a bench piece in that freshman season, one in which Washington made the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Wilcox would never return to the Big Dance, but saw his usage and numbers rise as his career continued. He averaged 16.8 and 18.3 points per game as a junior and senior respectively, hitting just under 39% of his 3-pointers in his career. He had a few nice performances in an NIT run as a sophomore and scored a career-high 31 points in a win over Colorado as a senior.
Those last two seasons saw Wilcox named Second Team All-Pac-12, developing into one of the conference’s best scoring guards. He was among the league’s leader in 3-pointers in each of his four seasons, with some of the offensive metrics making him look even more impressive. Wilcox spent parts of three seasons playing in the NBA after going undrafted while also spending significant time playing in the G-League.
