NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Utah of last decade

4. Kyle Collinsworth – BYU
This 6’6 guard from Provo is another one of today’s studs for BYU but he certainly won’t be the last. He was a decent piece as a freshman at BYU before serving his LDS mission for the next two years. When he got back on campus, Collinsworth developed into a vital piece of his Cougars’ backcourt, especially emerging in his senior season.
Collinsworth’s first season wasn’t his most impressive, but he did help lead BYU to the Sweet Sixteen, grabbing 15 rebounds in that loss to Florida. When he returned from his mission, he was a much more important player, averaging at least 13 points and 8 rebounds in each of his last three seasons. He had a career-high 28 points in the WCC title game loss to Gonzaga as a junior, while his career ended with a run to the NIT semifinals as a senior. That season saw him average 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.
Those numbers saw Collinsworth named WCC Player of the Year as a senior, with his final three seasons all seeing him named First Team All-WCC. He led the conference in assists and steals during that senior year, while his scoring and rebounding numbers were also very impressive. He played on some talented BYU squads and certainly made the players around him better, ranking among the nation leaders in assists in that final season. He played briefly with the Dallas Mavericks, but most of the last six years have seen him bounce between the G-League and overseas, playing over in the Far East most recently.
