Three-star prospect Brady Dunlap has made his decision to join Notre Dame Basketball, giving the team its second commit in the 2023 recruiting class.

If there’s any team that needs a big recruiting class in the 2023 cycle, it’s Notre Dame Basketball. The program has five 5th-year seniors that will automatically be gone after next season, as well as a potential “one and done” NBA Draft prospect in freshman guard JJ Starling.

So there could be as many as 6-7 open roster spots for a school that isn’t so easy to transfer into due to its high academic standards. So they’ll need to continue adding solid commits in the class.

The Irish already had one commit in four-star point guard Markus Burton. And now they’ve doubled up with a west coast player making his commitment to the program.

There are varying differences among the recruiting services, with some having Dunlap as a four-star prospect and others a little lower. But all scouts agree that the 6’7 wing has legit potential as a scorer for the Irish in the future. His size makes him not only a good wing at the power conference level but he can also play some undersized four-man to help space out the floor. Dunlap is a solid athlete and fits with Coach Mike Brey and could be the next leading scorer for Notre Dame Basketball.

There’s going to be a need for Dunlap to come in and have an impact early on the wing a year from now, considering what the Irish will be losing. Dane Goodwin, the team’s projected starting wing, averaged 15.0 ppg and will be gone after this season. And guys like Robby Carmody and Trey Wertz also will be gone too. The shooting and scoring that comes from this prospect give Dunlap a really good chance at being a freshman rotation player for 2023-24.

With commit No. 2, Notre Dame can now build on this and add a few more prospects. A true center and a couple of shooting guards/wings are still needed so there’s plenty of work left to do to have a satisfying class. But the pickup of Dunlap is very helpful for the program this week.
