NCAA Basketball: Top 10 teams most likely to win 1st title in 2022-23
4. Alabama Crimson Tide
Highest NCAAT finish: Elite 8 in 2004
The Crimson Tide isn’t going to have starting guard Jahvon Quinerly back until SEC play but he should be 100% for the Big Dance. He’ll be part of a very talented backcourt, featuring Ohio transfer Mark Sears, St. Bonaventure shooting guard Dom Welch and five-star point guard Jaden Bradley. Another five-star freshman set to have a big impact is Brandon Miller, an offensively gifted wing.
If sophomore center Charles Bediako can have a breakout season and become an elite interior defender, Alabama will have just about everything they need to be a dominant force in the sport. A lot of things do have to go right but this team’s ceiling is clear.
3. TCU Horned Frogs
Highest NCAAT finish: Elite 8 in 1968
When looking at what typically succeeds in the NCAA Tournament, it’s usually teams that play strong defense and have experienced guards leading the way. One who definitely fits that description is TCU, who returns just about everyone from last season, led by 15 ppg scorer Mike Miles and point guard Damion Baugh.
If big man Eddie Lampkin continues to develop and become another offensive weapon at the center position, the Horned Frogs will be very tough to beat. And that doesn’t include the room for growth offensively. They were a poor three-point shooting team and still was good in scoring due to their ability to get to the basket. Just a little improvement from deep will make this a top-10 caliber team and one to feat in March.
