NCAA Basketball: Top 100 impact transfers for 2022-23 season
4. Johni Broome – Auburn Tigers
2021-22 stats (at Morehead State): 16.8 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 3.9 bpg
If Broome were in any other mid-major conference, he would’ve been won their respective Player of the Year award. Instead, he was the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 3.9 blocks per game, good for 3rd in all of NCAA Basketball last season. The 6’10 center had 12 blocks in a single game and also was in double figures in 33 of 34 matchups as well.
Broome is the perfect replacement for Walker Kessler, who led the country in blocks last season for Auburn. His transition to the SEC should be fine since he has the size and physical measurements and is an underrated offensive player as well. If Broome can be an impactful defender, the Tigers will remain ranked and in the top-tier of the SEC.
3. Pete Nance – North Carolina Tar Heels
2021-22 stats (at Northwestern): 14.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.7 apg
The 6’10 forward was quietly one of the best frontcourt players in the Big Ten last season after his breakout campaign. Nance also shot 45% from three-point range and is a versatile offensive player. He’s a solid defender as well and a capable passer from the frontcourt.
Nance will not only be the replacement for Brady Manek on the power forward postion, but his skillset makes him arguably an upgrade. Plus, the Northwestern transfer can play at the five-spot as well to allow for various lineups. The Tar Heels were already set after four starters elected to come back but the late addition of Nance may push them to the No. 1 preseason spot.
