There are important games nearly every day of the NCAA basketball season, but we all know that the games are most important the later we are into the season. The Selection Committee is supposed to watch all the games, but it’s not just them who have their eyes on basketball in March. Any given game could introduce America to a new college basketball star or icon, fresh off a brilliant performance or memorable game-winning shot or dunk. Anything can happen in the world of college basketball.

We’ve been looking a lot at the names in recent years in college basketball. We’re continuing our long-running series that looks closely at the best college basketball players of the last ten seasons from each individual state. We’re not necessarily identifying the very best of the best in each of these pieces, but we’re giving each state its moment in the spotlight. Some states certainly have offered a better slate of players than others, but each state deserves its moment in the sun.

Vermont gets the honors today, though it’s admittedly hard to get super excited. The state of Vermont has produced very few D1 players across the last decades; it was frankly slim pickings to narrow down today’s list. However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great players on today’s list. It simply means that we couldn’t find enough players for the normal count, meaning we’re looking at five Vermont players today; not the usual ten that most of the states have gotten.

This article is not a piece on the best Vermont Catamounts, though we can promise that you may see a player or two from this brilliant program in the America East. It’s a focus on the players who are from the state of Vermont, not necessarily ones who went to high school or college in the state. It may not have the same level of talent as a neighbor like Massachusetts or New York, but there are still five interesting names with hometowns in Vermont. Let’s start meeting these players.
