NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Virginia of last decade
By Joey Loose
4. Erick Green – Virginia Tech
An impressive high school athlete over a decade ago, Green made his way to Virginia Tech way back in 2009. A 6’3 guard from Winchester, he had an unheralded start with the Hokies but blossomed into one of the program’s best players in recent memory.
Green underachieved as a freshman, but he slowly developed into a fantastic guard for the Hokies. He took a big step forward as a sophomore, averaging 11.6 points a game. His statistics and usage rose dramatically across his four seasons and he was really dynamic as a senior. Even though Virginia Tech wasn’t necessarily a contender in the ACC, Green became the league’s best player, averaging 25.0 points and 4.0 rebounds a game during that final campaign.
Green led the entire nation in points per game as a senior and was named ACC Player of the Year. A two-time All-ACC player, he developed into a pretty impressive scorer and offensive weapon for the Hokies, becoming the program’s backbone for his final two seasons. A late draft pick in 2013, Green spent a brief amount of time in the NBA but has spent much of his professional career overseas across the last decade.
