ACC Basketball: 10 biggest storylines to watch for 2022-23 season
3. How effective will the backcourt duo be for Miami?
One of the biggest team winners from the transfer portal this offseason was Miami, who landed All-Big 12 guard Nijel Pack from Kansas State, as well as Arkansas State forward transfer and Sun Belt Player of the Year, Norchad Omier. Where the hype comes is with Pack, who some have as a top-5 overall transfer this entire offseason after averaging 17.2 ppg and 44% shooting from three-point range.
Pack joins Isaiah Wong in the backcourt, who is the lone returning player from the Hurricane “Big 3”. Leading scorer Kameron McGusty is gone, along with Charlie Moore, who proved to be one of the top impact transfers from the offseason prior. He was a great point guard for the offense and gave Miami the kind of true facilitator that they were missing when Wong and Chris Lykes were running the offense.
The question for the Hurricanes now is which direction will the Pack/Wong combo look like? Pack will have to play point guard and he only averaged 2.2 apg at Kansas State, though it was at 3.8 apg as a freshman. The concern here is that the offense becomes “your turn, my turn” between the two and while they both will put up numbers, may not put up a ton of victories.
Miami may have won the offseason in the ACC but will it translate onto the court?
