Season outlook

There are zero rocking chair games for Nebraska this year as they go into a critical year. In my experience teams that must win or bust never usually go well. I also don’t think that Nebraska is in a must-win or bust situation, I think if they can show improvement and be more competitive and finish near or at .500 then that will be a huge step in the right direction for the program and for the future of coach Hoiberg. As it stands heading into the season Hoiberg is on thin ice and is going to need a good showing to stick around.

The Huskers are going to be picked to be one of the bottom four teams in the Big Ten again and it is with good reason. When your team has only won nine league games in three seasons there is no reason to think they will play any different than they have in the past. The Huskers will have some winnable games in conference against the other bottom-tier teams in the league like Northwestern, Minnesota, and Penn State. It remains to be seen how good teams like Rutgers and Iowa will be. Those two teams lost a lot and maybe Nebraska can catch them sleeping.

I am going to base my prediction off the fact that I do think this team is good enough to beat Saint John’s and Boston College and will beat Iowa, Minnesota twice, Penn State, and Northwestern, and think they can beat either Wisconsin or Ohio State in Lincoln. That coupled with one win in the ESPN events invitational and wins over Queens, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Maine, and Omaha gives Nebraska 13 wins which wouldn’t be great, but it would be enough to keep Coach Hoiberg in Lincoln to try and build off.
